Today in Bulgaria is celebrated the holiday of “Baba Marta”, which is a symbol of the comming spring. It brings a wish for health and fertility at the beginning of the new cycle in nature.
The tradition is related to the ancient history of the Balkan Peninsula and the agricultural cults to nature. On March 1, traditionally, Bulgarians present “martenitsa” – twisted woolen threads in white and red.
