very year on the 4th of October we celebrate World Animal Day. The decision to mark this day was made at the International Congress of Supporters of the Nature Conservation Movement in Florence, Italy in 1931.
The goal of World Animal Day is to improve attitudes towards animal species around the world by providing support to individuals, groups and animal welfare organizations.
There are more than 40,000 endangered species in the world, with at least 100 species disappearing daily, according to the UN Committee on the Protection of Animals and Nature. The reason in most cases is due to poachers, for profit. Among the most endangered species are: large primates, elephants, large pandas, tigers, sea turtles and rhinos.
